GeNie Artist Biography
DJ GeNie Baffoe is a multi-talented DJ, MC, freestyle dancer, educator, sound technician, actor, filmmaker, husband, and proud father whose passion for Hip Hop culture has inspired communities across Canada and beyond. Originally from Montreal, Québec and now based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, GeNie has spent nearly two decades studying, teaching, performing, and preserving Hip Hop culture.
Known for his high-energy presence behind the decks and on the mic, he has travelled throughout North America and internationally to DJ, host, judge dance battles, teach workshops, compete, and facilitate cultural events. As a community leader and organizer, GeNie has created and directed events including DANCE 4 MS, The Artist Within, Who’s the iLLEST, BeatMakeUSDance, You Got Stylez, and Light It Up Dance Battle. He has also choreographed CFL halftime shows for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, opened performances for WE Day, and was one of only two Canadian choreographers selected to help create the national Sharing Dance routine for Canada’s 150th anniversary.
GeNie is the co-creator and director of Our Scene The Movie, a documentary on Winnipeg’s Hip Hop dance community. His screen work also includes appearances in Bravetown and Lovesick. Beyond the stage, GeNie is committed to education and community. He regularly teaches and facilitates classes, freestyle sessions, workshops, and programming across Winnipeg at The Forks, Drop In Dance Winnipeg, BOSS Dance Academy, schools, festivals, and community spaces. Whether DJing, MCing, teaching, or creating spaces for connection through music and movement, DJ GeNie Baffoe continues to uplift communities through culture, creativity, and authentic expression.
